How come my alarm clock does not reach my desired radio station, but my car reaches it with no problem?

I get a radio station that is Detroit, Michigan, I just can 't get it with my alarm and my car has no ninguÌ? No problem, catch the signal. What is the problem?

The antenna in your clock is inferior to that in your car, and the receiver is probably less sensitive too.
There’s nothing you can easily do to improve matters.

In addition to dmb06851’s answer…
The antenna in the clock radio is also (typically) contained inside the radio, which is inside your dwelling of choice, which could be further contained inside other dwellings. Each barrier (obstacle) will attenuate the radio signals a fraction. Since the car antenna is out in the open, it will receive a stronger signal than inside the dwelling. (Ever notice how the radio starts crackling or a station is lost when you drive through a tunnel, or are going through the mountains? Same thing, different barrier.
